About The Artwork A limited edition giclée print of an image originally painted back in 2010. It is hand-signed in pencil, printed onto high quality, Hahnemühle German Etching paper and presented unframed. The size is the same as the original painting of 70cmx50cm but with an additional 3cm blank border area. This painting is a mysterious, nocturnal scene of city life in which several characters are potrayed some in strange postures suggesting an unexplained narrative. The location is a narrow, winding passageway between grand neo-classical buildings bathed in shadow which hints at the otherwordly surrealism of Giorgio de Chirico landscapes yet is actually based on a real location in Manchester, England. The scene is painted with an exaggerated use of colour in a distortive, expressionist style yet then highlighted with fine ink lines which lends the image a slight cartoonish effect which adds to the aura of mysteriousness as though a scene from a comic book story. The title of the painting alludes to the name of the passageway (the building on the left is a library) and that this was the second version I have painted of the scene.
