About The Artwork This is from my series of musician paintings. I’ve been going out and drawing live music in Brooklyn for many years. I carry small handmade sketchbooks in my back pocket and draw loose line drawings, mostly in the dark, so I really don’t see the drawing until later. I then take those small drawings as starting points for larger paintings on wood panel, canvas and paper. Before painting the subject, I start out by underpainting the surface, I use a variety of materials including spray paint, ink and paint, occasionally I will use found objects, such as the plastic grills from discarded fans to stencil background patterns.
